What attracted you to the hair styling industry?

My Mum and Dad were already in the industry. I saw how creative it was and loved playing with my dolls’ hair!

How did you get to where you are today?

I went to London College of Fashion for two years and worked in a hair salon. I loved the industry immediately then afterwards went to Peter Mark where I trained and worked for several years.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love that I can make people look and feel better and to be creative with people’s hair and bring out the best beauty in them. Helping someone achieve flawless hair and advising them on aftercare is just so natural to me. Giving that five-star service is what I truly love.

Difficult part of what you do?

Sometimes I find it hard to be a business owner and be creative at same time and find balance with my own life. Work/life balance is something so many of us struggle with, but the creative part will always shine through.

Best piece of style advice ever?

I think the best style advice I ever read was by Coco Chanel: “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only; fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

Best piece of style advice to pass on?

Be true to who you are and dress how you want to. Be yourself. Fashion fades. It isn’t always for everyone; only style remains the same.

Style icon and why?

This is a hard one. There are so many inspirational women, but I tend to look at iconic women that achieve in life, as well as style. Evolving style is important and I think these women have really nailed it. Madonna; she changes with time Audrey Hepburn because she is timeless with her style and is very classic. Marilyn Monroe or Coco Chanel; Marilyn because she was the ultimate bombshell and Coco because of her elegance.

Business icon and why?

Peter Mark! Irish-owned business and they employ thousands of people and I worked there too! They don’t get enough credit for what they do. They, in many ways, revolutionised hair and hair services in Ireland. They are leaders in so many ways and a true inspiration that if you can believe it you can achieve it.

Plans for your business over the next 12 months?

Maintain our excellent reputation. The key to this being education. Work hard, continue to upskill. We will be a Kevin Murphy session salon, one of the first in Munster. We are taking on Platinum hair extensions – these are going to be huge – and we have a new nail bar that has just opened, giving us the opportunity to offer more to our clients. Nurture my business and my team more to help us grow together.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Moving to some bigger premises as space is a little tight for our growing business. We have established ourselves as being the best in Blackrock, so we are looking to service more people and take on new clients.

How do you stay motivated?

Believing we can always do better and surrounding myself with positive people. Going to work daily with a purpose and helping people achieve hair of their dreams is a pretty great motivator too. And, of course, my team motivates me, as I do them.

What advice can you give to young people who want to break into the industry?

Just do it. Always remember,

“No one above you, no one below you, always by your side

Work hard and stay focused and do all your training as it’s like the foundations to a house, the beginning is the most important bit. Look for opportunities to grow and always stay loyal to people that nurture you. Always go the extra mile… it’s never crowded!
