Get smoother permanently in 2019
I am no stranger to a wax strip. In fact, I have spent hours laying having the hair ripped by the root our from the most intimate areas of my body in attempt to obtain smooth skin. It’s like a temporary love though, smooth chicken like skin leads to smooth skin and then turns to stubble. A bit like a lame first month of dating someone. As someone that also values dignity I decided to get something a little more permanent and boy am I glad I did. My hair is light on my legs and face so I can’t have that lasered.
For a living I get to visit many salons and clinics and I sought the best hair removal on the market. I am not the hairiest person alive, but my social life and job dictate that I may be one of the busiest. Therefore, I wanted a result driven treatment and while with all treatments there is no guarantee I wanted to ensure that the machine was new and up to date. I chose Cynosure. I had first got a consultation in Killarney; however, I then found a machine closer to home in Elite Laser Aesthetics. The one used by the Kardashians no less and let’s face it they expose enough skin, so they must have the best. Cynosure is a brand that is renowned as one of the only actual laser machines on the market. There is a difference between laser and IPL. Both are effective at removing hair, but the method used is slightly different.
Are you ready for the science bit?
Heat damages hair. We know this. Laser and IPL hair removal both work on the same principle essentially. That is that light energy is absorbed by areas of high pigment such as hairs (the roots or bulbs), which are therefore heated up. The heat damages the follicle, (think of leaving a GHD or tongs on your hair for a long time) slowing hair growth and even preventing it completely. The main difference between IPL and laser hair removal devices is the light source used. IPL uses broad-spectrum visible light whereas laser hair removal utilises the properties of a laser. You need to use googles for both. The laser can travel deeper down into the pore, giving a concentrated blast of light to the follicle, and can therefore be more specific in the treatment it gives.
The nature of lasers means that laser hair removal devices can focus light down into the pores of the skin, getting closer to the follicle to treat it and ultimately prevent regrowth. This can mean that laser hair removal can achieve much quicker results than IPL because single hairs are heated to damaging temperatures quicker. Therefore, you may need fewer treatments of laser hair removal to achieve the same results. This is totally dependent on everyone.
I am at four of six for laser for my underarms and bikini (Hollywood). I am almost confident that I could stop now, as the hair so fine and barely noticeable but I will get the next two sessions to clear it completely. As I said I am not the worlds hairiest woman but did have to get waxed every four weeks. The treatment itself is not too painful. You would know that you are having a treatment and you may be red for an hour or so after. I wear full cotton panties after for hygiene and have only had one in grown hair. It is essential to keep it up in a pattern as advised by your clinic to ensure the best results. You need to avoid it at hormonal times for obvious reasons. I recommend mid cycle for the most comfortable experience. Melanie and Jessica are both professionals and the clinic itself is multi award winning.
