With the clocks going back on October 29th, we can relish in those extra 60-mins of shut-eye. However, it can negatively impact our internal body clock and lead to an increase in disturbed sleep.

ThisWorks, created by former Beauty Director of Vogue, Kathy Philips are pioneers in sleep-enhancement and have been investing in the science of sleep since 2004. The innovative skincare and wellness brand has developed a range of sleep products to help promote a peaceful night’s sleep, specifically targeting those who struggle to fall asleep, can’t switch off, experience a racing mind, and suffer from sleep anxiety.

Sleep is the most important beauty treatment for our skin, and what our skin requires in the morning differs from what it needs at night. ThisWorks takes a 24-hour approach to skincare and wellness and has created a range of scientifically proven, clean, targeted sleep products to help you sleep while repairing your skin during the night.

The Sleep range from ThisWorks includes a unique, expertly formulated blend of 99 percent natural ingredients and essential oils. These include therapeutic lavender oil, an adaptogen that is proven to help our bodies manage stress and restore balance after a stressful situation; botanical oils such as vetiver oil, which is a natural sedative and has both immuno-stimmulant and anti-inflammatory properties as well as super actives such camomile oil that is naturally calming, anti-inflammatory and has an anti-allergen effect.

A good night’s sleep plays a key role in caring for our body and mind. We can take a few simple steps before bedtime to help improve our sleep patterns. ThisWorks expert Mithra Nandoo shares her recommended winddown practices for a peaceful night’s sleep:

  • Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time (yes, even on days off and/or weekends) to keep your circadian rhythm in order.

  • Get daylight in your eyes! Increased daytime light improves alertness, mood, performance, and sleep, and decreased light exposure in the evening and at night can promote sleep. Viewing daylight in the afternoon has also been shown to help improve sleep quality. The different solar angle of light in the afternoon helps to trigger the release of melatonin to prepare for sleep and can also protect from the negative effects of viewing blue light.

  • Avoid consuming alcohol after 9.00pm, which can interfere with sleep patterns. The same goes for late-night snacking, especially sweets and also watch your intake of stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine throughout the day.

  • Take a relaxing bath. While a warm evening bath is a great way to unwind, avoid very hot water. Your body rhythms want a cooler temperature in the evening.

  • Ensure your bedroom temperature is cooler than daytime, 16-19 degrees Celsius is ideal.

  • Keep your bedroom dimly lit or dark for the best sleep. Room darkening shades, curtains, or a sleep mask can prevent light from signaling your brain to wake up.

  • Noise can disrupt sleep, so eliminate environmental noise as much as possible at bedtime.

  • At least an hour before bed, put devices away! Blue light emitted by your phone and other devices affects melatonin production, which regulates sleep and wake-up patterns.

  • Use proven, tested aromatherapy solutions, such as Deep Sleep Pillow Spray to help reduce sleep anxiety and create a calm, tranquil nighttime environment and help you fall asleep more quickly.

  • If you wake up frequently in the night, and struggle with disturbed sleep, ThisWorks Sleep Plus Pillow Spray is a motion-activated sleep spray for restless sleepers, shown to help restore normal sleep patterns.
