Monique Howlett will host an exhibition of her oil paintings and ink sketches at the Hazelhurst Gallery in Monkstown, Cork on Saturday, June 22 until Sunday, June 30.
New Zealand born Monique Howlett graduated with a degree in Art and Design and was deputy art director in a large media agency in New Zealand for a number of years. When her husband, the All Blacks rugby legend Doug Howlett came to Ireland to play for Munster Rugby, Monique moved with him and continued to paint and draw particularly taking to Irish nature and scenes. Now after 11 years in Ireland, the Howlett family are heading back to New Zealand to their families, so this is a special exhibition for her.
Speaking ahead of the solo exhibition in Monkstown, artist Monique Howlett said:
“Before we go back to New Zealand, I want to share my artwork with my beautiful Irish friends. I have worked on this collection for the past seven years. It explores my passion for nature and nurture and the simple joy it brings. Children feature heavily in my work. It is their imagination and curiosity that I aim to capture. They live in the moment and in these moments there is pure joy and calm. Oil paints are main medium I use and I also love working with charcoals and the humble pencil sketch. Ultimately, the subject matter will dictate the medium.”
Monique’s exhibition will be hosted by Ivan Woulfe in Hazelhurst Gallery in Monkstown. The exhibition runs for 1 week from Saturday, June, 22 at 2pm, until Sunday, June 30.
