Why do lips become dry? It is a question that many people would not know the answer to, so we asked Marie Therese to fill us in!
Marie Therese is the Head of Training with Graham Anthony Distribution, and lets us know that our lips can become very dry because our lips do not have working sebaceous glands. These glands, if they were operational, would serve the purpose of keeping our lips moist. The harsh conditions plays a big factor in drying out lips, and our own saliva dries out lips as it contains amylase and maltase which strip away the skin on our lips, leaving them exposed to dry air. Another factor that affects our lips is the aging process. As you get older, cracks can appear and deep wrinkles on the lips. Lips can sometimes become thinner in appearance and lose definition.
