What attracted you to the industry?
Opening a boutique was always on my Bucket List. I opened my first business at 23-years-old for almost 10 years. After my second child was born I took time, to concentrate on being a mom for a while and wanted a change in career anyway, so closed the salon. I had time to reflect. June approached with me the business proposal. It was a real sign that this was my time to go for my dream!
How did you get to where you are today?
Owning my own business for almost 10 years has taught me alot about customer service and what women want!
What do you love most about what you do?
I love getting our lookbooks and choosing which items we want in our boutique. I suppose the difficulty would be the business side; all the hard work behind the scenes, juggling self-employment, work, family and time to have a bit of fun as well.
What’s the most difficult part of what you do?
I’m an all or nothing kind of girl, so throw myself in fully when I commit. My brain works on overtime and can find it hard to wind down.
What’s the best piece of style advice you can pass on?
My style advice is just be you. Be unique in whichever way that it is. Wear what you are comfortable in and don’t listen to what other people think. If you like it, wear it with confidence. Stay true to yourself.
Who is your style icon and why?
I’m loving Meghan Markle’s style before becoming a royal!
Who is your business icon and why?
I worked for Eileen McGrath in The Edge Hair Design during my apprenticeship and I admire her work ethic. She works very hard and keeps her staff up to date in training. She provides a top class service at all times and treats every client equally.
What plans do you have for your business over the next 12 months?
Next 12 months, I’d like to start business courses especially in digital marketing and get involved with Network Cork. I love to learn and better myself continuously. Get involved in more fashion shows!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Five year plan: now I have to keep this to myself but I have a plan in my head…
How do you stay motivated?
I stay motivated by going back to the business plan we started off with, staying focused on tasks and being positive at all times.
What advice would you give young people who want to break into the industry?
My advice would be to take every opportunity that comes your way. Every path leads to new destinations. Set yourself goals yearly and work towards them. But enjoy yourself in the meantime. Have some fun!
