There are milestones that mark a moment, and then there are those that mark a movement. For Kevin Bodenham, founder of Moyo Hair and Beauty in Dublin and a proud nominee for the Rémy Martin Men of the Year Awards 2025, this year has been a celebration of both. Honoured with the prestigious Life Achievement Award at the Passoã Hair and Beauty Awards – fittingly themed Sweet 16 – Kevin stands as a beacon of grace, passion, and unwavering dedication in Ireland’s beauty industry.

I was deeply moved,” he says of the win. “It’s not just about the recognition – it’s about the journey. The people. The love. Every challenge I met with a smile, every client I welcomed with open arms… this award means the world.”

And what a journey it’s been. Sixteen years of Moyo: a salon built on bold vision, enduring resilience, and team spirit that Kevin describes as family. “We’ve faced it all – economic crashes, snowstorms, almost two years of Covid closures – but loyalty and laughter always got us through.”

From its leafy sanctuary in Dublin, Moyo has become more than a salon. It’s a soulful space that reflects Kevin’s core values: beauty, kindness, and sustainability. With Aveda as its exclusive partner, Moyo champions clean beauty in every sense — from its plant-based products to its calming virtual garden wall that greets every guest.

Kevin’s story begins far from Irish shores. “I’m South African at heart,” he shares. “My roots are rich in creativity, diversity, and connection.” But it only took one magical weekend for Dublin to steal his heart. “The friendly faces, the historic streets, the wildness of the landscape — it felt like home instantly. And it is home now, especially with my gorgeous Irish husband and our two mischievous dogs by my side.”

Now 60, Kevin embraces his silver crown with pride. “It tells the story of every lesson, every triumph, and every beautiful moment,” he says. “I believe beauty should be simple, soulful, and full of heart.”

He speaks most fondly of being there for life’s precious moments — the weddings, birthdays, and milestones shared with clients who’ve become dear friends. “That’s the magic of hairdressing,” he reflects. “Yes, trends and tools evolve, but the connection and care — that will always remain.”

Looking ahead, Kevin’s dreams are rooted in legacy: to continue nurturing Moyo, mentoring the next generation, and celebrating the life he’s lovingly built. “If I could offer one piece of advice, it’s this — work hard, stay true to yourself, and never be afraid to shine… grey hair and all.”
