Looking for a gift that’s meaningful, beautifully designed, and made in Ireland? Outcrop, the award-winning Sligo-based design studio run by husband-and-wife team Aran and Maeve Pudney, has created the perfect gift for Father’s Day 2025. Their stunning round wooden 3D maps (€99), now available with personalised engraving, a meaningful location using a solid brass pin and a new natural wood finish.

Perfect for the dad who loves the sea – whether he’s into boating, fishing, or coastal life – these handcrafted map frames make a meaningful Father’s Day gift that celebrates his favourite places and pastimes. Handcrafted entirely in Sligo, these distinctive round maps are precision-cut from layers of Outcrop’s custom-made, formaldehyde-free bamboo plywood and enclosed in their innovative patent-pending framing system, inspired by traditional Japanese Magewappa, Shaker boxes, and Irish vernacular furniture. Each piece is a celebration of Ireland’s landscapes, created using FSC-certified materials, non-toxic glue, and a signature Atlantic blue stain that pays homage to the coastal home of Outcrop.

With over 100 locations across Ireland already mapped and more being added regularly, there’s a ‘Local Spot’ for every dad. And with personalisation available exclusively on Outcrop’s website, now’s the time to give a gift that’s as unique as the father figure in your life.

New for this season, Outcrop has introduced two special features: a natural nude frame option for a softer, minimalist look, and the ability to pinpoint (using an Eircode) a meaningful location using a solid brass pin, along with a custom-engraved message on the back of the frame. For just an additional €20, customers can create a truly unique and sentimental gift for Father’s Day – whether it’s marking a childhood home, favourite surf spot, or a special memory.

Each round frame is priced at €99 and represents a seamless blend of eco-conscious craftsmanship and thoughtful design. They’re 100% biodegradable or compostable, assembled without glues or nails, and finished with a wooden clip, making them as sustainable as they are stylish.

Sustainability

The ‘Local Spots’ collection has just won the prestigious Sustainability Award at Showcase 2025, and Outcrop continues to push the boundaries of eco-friendly design. Their commitment to sustainable innovation and heartfelt craftsmanship ensures every map is more than just décor – it’s a tribute to the places we love.

Over the years, Outcrop has become more and more interested in sustainability and where their materials come from. Aran says:

“All of our products are designed and made by us using premium natural materials, and our commitment to the environment and business as a means for good has become one of our core values.”

Background

Outcrop is the creative partnership of Aran and Maeve Pudney, a husband-and-wife team blending engineering and design expertise. Both grew up by the sea – Maeve in Sligo, Aran in New Zealand – and their work reflects a shared love of coastal landscapes and considered, sustainable design. Their mapping journey began in Wellington, New Zealand, where they lived for several years before returning to Sligo, Maeve’s hometown, in 2020 to establish Outcrop on Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast.

Outcrop is built around family life, with a hands-on approach that allows Aran and Maeve to balance their craft with raising their children. Every map is designed and made in-house with care and intention, using eco-friendly materials to honour the landscapes that inspire them. Aran says:

“Our aim has always been to make really good products that will bring their owners joy and be cherished for a long time.”
