Maison Margiela continues to invent  olfactive, collective memories with a new fragrance: Autumn Vibes. Like earlier ‘Replica’ fragrances, including Lazy Sunday Morning, By the Fireplace, Beach Walk and Jazz Club, this new scent is inspires a familiar recollection — in this case, a quiet, introspective walk along a forest’s rusty-coloured autumn foliage.

Montreal, 2018

An invigorating walk along a forest’s rusty-coloured autumn foliage. A moment of escape and contemplation in the shadows of trees. Quiet, almost meditative — dried leaves tumbling down, rustling under your footsteps. Follow the forest’s ancient trails. Take a deep breath of fresh air, let your instinct be your guide. The delight of being one with nature. Memories grow on trees.

“From the onset I had in mind a forest walk in autumn,” says perfumer Fanny Bal. “In particular, those moments when you feel the dried leaves crackle under your feet. Tree trunks are covered with moss, damp notes of undergrowth float in the air. All you can see is red, brown and yellow leaves, slowly falling to the ground.”

A woody and slightly resinous trail of Cedarwood is blended with a moss accord, evoking the soaked leaves and moss of an autumn day in a forest. Fir balsam and labdanum call to mind the sweetness of tree sap. Spicy notes of pink pepper mingle with green notes of coriander and cardamom, reproducing the colours of autumn leaves crackling as you walk under the forest canopy. Warm notes of nutmeg are softened by the earthy, floral facets of carrot seed, replicating the forest’s moist undergrowth. Olibanum highlightens the mix, adding a woody, resinous touch.
