Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, We Got The Jazz and TheRecordHub.com have announced a unique celebration marking 85 years of the iconic jazz label, Blue Note Records, with an immersive exhibition titled 85 Years Of Blue Note at the historic St. Peter’s Cork for the duration of the festival.
This first-of-its-kind collaboration showcases the profound impact Blue Note has had on the worlds of both jazz and visual art.
Running throughout the festival, the FREE to visit installation provides a rich, interactive experience for music and art lovers alike. Visitors can enjoy a walk-through display of Blue Note’s legendary album covers and discover the label’s deep roots in shaping modern jazz. This visual journey is complemented by the launch of Blue Note’s first-ever pop-up store in Ireland, in association with TheRecordHub.com, offering an array of exclusive merchandise and memorabilia.
Fans will have the chance to purchase exclusive merch and the pop up shop will also feature rare vinyl, CDs, and Blu-Ray copies of Blue Note Records Beyond The Notes, as well as a anniversary edition of the acclaimed book Blue Note: Uncompromising Expression: The Finest in Jazz Since 1939 by the late Richard Havers. To celebrate the fusion of music and design, the gallery focuses on the innovative album art that has become synonymous with Blue Note’s pioneering sound.
In addition to Blue Note’s exclusive items, the store will offer curated stock from Ireland’s own vinyl emporium, TheRecordHub.com, making this a must-visit destination for jazz enthusiasts during the festival
The pop-up will open for four days only from Thursday October 24th to Monday October 28th stocking the largest physical collection of Blue Note, Jazz and modern vinyl for sale in Ireland, along with exclusive merchandise, books, branded clothing and more.
The official pop-up store & exhibition is the latest in a series of activations to mark Blue Note’s 85th anniversary this year. Glasgow launched a Blue Note pop up in June to coincide with the Glasgow International Jazz Festival, marking the first time the legendary jazz label has opened an official store outside of London. And the Blue Note pop up shop will return again to London in mid November for ten days to run alongside the London Jazz Festival 2024.
Don Was, a widely-respected artist, producer and label boss and President of the American jazz label Blue Note Records, said “The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is always a brilliant event and we at Blue Note are thrilled to be integrally involved this year. The exhibition of our artwork and therecordhub.com’s exclusive pop-up offerings will enable Cork to celebrate our 85th anniversary with panache!”
Amy McGovern from TRH said, “We hope you can join us as we celebrate the rich history of Blue Note Records with Guinness Cork Jazz Festival as we honour eighty five years of music, art, and innovation. We are delighted to have TheRecordHub.com in St Peters Church this year as part of the We Got The Jazz line up”
One of the curators involved, Cork’s very own Stevie G, said, “We are really excited to welcome “85 Years of Blue Note” to St Peter’s for the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. Blue Note is an iconic label that continues to reflect the many shapes of jazz and its heritage is unparalleled. This exhibition is going to be a visual feast for music, art and design lovers of all ages, and it’s an exciting collaboration with Blue Note, the Jazz Festival, the Record Hub and our own We Got the Jazz project, which has previously used the St Peter’s space for Evolution and the Chuck Stewart Exhibition. It’s jazz time in Cork and Blue Note are on the way!”
