This year’s Best Dressed winner at the 2024 RDS Dublin Horse Show is Lorraine Ryan Kelly from Galway, who walked away with an incredible €10,000 cash prize from 1664 Blanc. Lorraine wore a hat by Caitriona King, a bronze lace bouse by Julie Caufield, black trousers by No Name Style, black shoes and a black handbag with gold detailing which she borrowed from her mum. Speaking about the win, she said “I am absolutely delighted, over the moon. I nearly had second thoughts about entering when I saw the queue but I’m so thrilled I decided to take part in this special day!”
Judges Bairbre Power and Clémentine MacNeice said of the winning look, “It was a touch of class. Before Lorraine walked up the steps, we knew she was the winner. There was no doubt. It’s like when you fall in love – when you know, you know!”
Over 300 people took to the Best Dressed stage and shared their looks with MC Laura Woods and the two judges. Many availed of a makeup touch-up by makeup artists from Irish beauty brand KASH Beauty. Sustainability dominated the stage with hats created from recycled straws and outfits either upcycled or borrowed from rental stores or cherished vintage pieces passed down through generations.
The runner-up in the Best Dressed was Joice da Silva from São Paulo, Brazil who walked away with a luxurious package including a 2-night B&B stay at the 5-star Morrison Dublin, Curio Collection by Hilton, plus an additional 2 nights B&B at the Aleph Rome Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, and a €100 airline voucher. Joice wore a satin pink dress by The Kemist London and a headpiece by Marc Millinery. The look was chosen by the judges for its colour and silhouette, they said it was “striking, it really stood out from the crowd”.
The Most Creative Hat category, sponsored by Pichet, a celebrated Dublin restaurant marking its 15th anniversary, was won by Laura Hanlon, who received a €1,000 voucher for Pichet, valid across all eight venues of the Mercantile Group in Dublin. Laura created her own hat using recycled hair extensions, which took her three goes to create before she nailed the look. The judges said that the creativity that she showed in creating her hat was incredible.
The Tressed to Impress category, sponsored by Peter Mark, was won by Babatunde Alabi, who took home a fabulous prize featuring a hamper of hair care products to the value of €1,000 for the best-styled hair. Speaking about his win, he said “I am actually feeling really stoked I didn’t think I would win, I just wanted to show up and show out. So happy to have been amongst all of the gorgeous ladies!”
Siobhan Masterson, RDS Commercial Director said “Sincere thanks to all those who brought such vibrancy, diversity and style to the Dublin Horse Show today. Best Dressed is more than just a style competition, it has historical roots in when ladies were first invited to compete at the Show in 1919 and which became an occasion to dress up. Sincere appreciation to all our sponsors and to 1664 Blanc for an amazing display on the RDS Band Lawn.”
