In a world where pet care is often dominated by pharmaceuticals and quick fixes, one Irish vet is changing the game—naturally. Meet Dr. Sinéad Mellett, founder of Natural Vet Co., a Cork-based startup creating holistic, herbal-based pet supplements that put wellness back into the hands (and paws) of nature.
Nominated for the Villa Maria Women of Vision Awards 2025, Sinéad is one of those rare individuals whose passion radiates through every part of her work. A West Clare native with a deep-rooted respect for the natural world, she’s turning heads—and winning awards—for her innovative approach to veterinary care.
“I always had a deep connection with both nature and animals,” she shares. “From a young age, I was shown how to use natural ingredients for medicinal purposes, to care for animals and our surroundings and to nurture nature kindly.”
It’s no surprise, then, that after a decade working as a vet in Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, Sinéad began to question the over-reliance on conventional medicines. Many pet owners, she noticed, felt unsure about their options. That’s where Natural Vet Co. was born—from a desire to bridge traditional veterinary knowledge with the healing power of nature.
Launched officially at the National Ploughing Championships in September last year, Natural Vet Co. has quickly gained traction. With high-quality herbal remedies tailored to support pet health in a sustainable, science-led way, it’s clear that Sinéad is on to something powerful.
Her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Recently, she received the Best Business Opportunity Award from the Rubicon Centre and An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, as part of the New Frontiers Programme—a testament to her creativity, vision, and grit.
“Western Herbal Medicine opened my eyes,” Sinéad explains. “I began studying it while working abroad, and the evidence-based research behind it made me realise what was missing in veterinary medicine.”
That missing link became her mission. Today, Sinéad runs the business from Cork, alongside her husband Eoghan, also a vet, and their two daughters. For her, it’s not just a business—it’s a movement. One rooted in integrity, kindness, and a profound belief in the healing power of nature.
“Our ethos is simple: ‘Allow Nature, Heal Nature.’ That’s what we live by at Natural Vet Co.”
Sinéad’s story is one of heart and home, science and soul. A woman of vision, indeed—and a force of nature in every sense.
