5 Common Summer Skincare Questions Answered
Ultraceuticals Expert Advocate and multi-award-winning facialist, Corinna Tolan shares expert advice to keep your skin glowing all summer long
Summer is a time for sunshine, swims, and seaside escapes — but for your skin, it can also bring a host of challenges: dehydration, breakouts, dullness, or increased sensitivity.
We caught up with Corinna Tolan, Ultraceuticals Expert Advocate and multi-award-winning facialist, to get answers to the most common summer skin concerns. Corinna shares her top tips and product picks to help your skin feel its best during the warmer months.
Q: My skin feels both oily and dry in the summer – what should I do?
Corinna says: “This is really common, especially when you’re in and out of air-conditioned spaces or spending time in the sun. A lightweight moisturiser with hydrating ingredients like Sodium Hyaluronate and Ceramides can balance the skin without feeling heavy or greasy.”

Q: What should I use after a day in the sun?
Corinna says: “Skin can feel tight and stressed after sun exposure, even if you don’t burn. I always recommend replenishing moisture and soothing and redness-reducing ingredients like Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) and Vitamin E.”

Q: Can a face mist really make a difference?
Corinna says: “Absolutely. A good hydrating mist is brilliant for hot days or flights when your skin feels parched. Look for one that does more than just refresh—something that nourishes too.”

Q: I’m going on a long-haul flight — any skincare tips for flying?
Corinna says: “Airplane cabins are incredibly dehydrating, which can leave your skin tight, dull and tired-looking. Before a flight, I prep with a hydrating mist and moisturiser, and during the flight I use an eye mask to refresh and reduce puffiness — especially if I want to look alive when I land!”

Q: How often should I really be reapplying SPF, especially on beach or pool days?
Corinna says: “SPF isn’t a one-and-done step — especially if you’re swimming, sweating, or towel-drying. Reapply every two hours at a minimum, and immediately after swimming. I always recommend using a broad-spectrum SPF with added hydration to support the skin barrier in the heat.”
